To say I enjoyed being Oli and Holly’s photographer at their Vaucluse House wedding would be the understatement of the year. But enough about me. I think it’s time to go back in time… dial the flux capacitor to April 2010.
Meet Holly Huitt – a fresh faced American college grad in the Big Apple who has just scored a gig as an intern working at Slow Food International. On a side note Slow Food fosters the pleasure of good food whilst staying true to the environment and communities – gotta love that. What organisation isn’t complete without a few high flyers keeping the show running? Enter Oli MacColl. Political activist, bike riding enthusiast, world traveller… I could go on but you could always just Google him 😉
Being in upper management, things were a little more challenging for Oli. Polite office conversations had a certain tension – an underlying context. Things weren’t going to stay that way. After their first few meetings Oli knew that there was something uniquely special there and he wasn’t going to let a puddle called the Pacific Ocean get in the way. Flying back to Australia was like stretching a rubber band. Every mile he flew further from Holly only added to the pull to be back with her. Upon touch down in Sydney he booked a ticket to return immediately.
Falling in love in New York isn’t a difficult thing and for these two it happened as fast as superglue dries. The bond that formed in those early days has held ever since. Their Vaucluse House wedding went off without a hitch (apart from the obvious one) and I just heard from Holly on her honeymoon and guess where they are? Skiing in Chamonix, France. Now that’s a honeymoon!
